From 11th to 17th of April 2026, youth workers, trainers and civil society representatives from all around Europe have participated in the international seminar named Climate Zero, that was held in Erzurum, Türkiye. The seminar was organised as a part of Erasmus+ KA153 project and involved 30 people who discussed how to incorporate climate challenges and adaptation into industry, agriculture and tourism.
From Awareness to Action: Tackling Climate Challenges
The Climate Zero seminar hoped to provide all participants with the necessary knowledge and tools to tackle climate change and how to adapt within their field of specialisation. The objectives of the seminar were:
To raise awareness on climate adaptation and the significance thereof.
To expose the participants to existing solutions for climate resilience in the industrial, agricultural, and tourism sectors.
To build capacity of youth workers in formulating climate-related projects and activities.
To foster networking and collaboration among organizations in an international scope.
To generate new project ideas using the Ideathon approach.
A Week of Learning, Innovation, and Hands-On Workshops
This seminar involved both interaction with experts on the subject and collaborative work among the participants, thus enabling everyone to gain theoretical knowledge as well as effective solutions for dealing with climate issues.
Participants gained insight into the Climate Zero initiative and Erasmus+ KA153 program on climate change and adaptation. Erzurum’s harsh climate, cold winters, and dependence on agriculture and animals were presented in a special session.
The city tour provided an opportunity for the participants to observe the application of climate adaptation strategies in practice. Lectures delivered by the experts included the issues related to climate hazards and climate adaptation strategies in industry through practical examples of greening and resilient production. Reflection and group discussion on the issues were part of the program activities.
Climate-sensitive and sustainable tourism, including the influence of climate change on winter and nature tourism, were considered in the training through examples from Türkiye and Europe. Ideathon sessions used the multi-disciplinary teams to develop projects to address climate adaptation issues in their fields.
Erzurum: A Practical Experiment on Climate Change
Climate Zero is set in Erzurum since the area provides a realistic setting for studying climate adaptation due to its unique climate and economic system. The severe continental climate, the agricultural and animal husbandry economy, as well as the possibilities of winter tourism and tourism based on the region’s natural features make this setting relevant in order to analyze the influence of climate change and actions taken in response to it.
Climate Zero has proven that climate adaptation is not merely theoretical but calls for action, collaboration, and innovation. Through the collaboration of youth workers, professionals and experts created an environment for the creation of action plans and the cultivation of a new generation of climate-aware leaders who will make a difference in the future.
